Today’s article ‘Alliance divided: on Sri Lankan politics’ has been picked from ‘The Hindu’

 This article talks about the political crisis in Sri Lanka after the two main parties in the ruling coalition suffered a dramatic defeat.The article says President Sirisena and PM Wickremesinghe should work together for the good of Sri Lanka.

1)Throe ( noun)  (दम तोड़ना):   throh
Meaning – 
intense or violent pain and struggle, especially accompanying birth, death, or great change/
intense struggle or agony

Meaning – 
a state of incompatibility or disagreement/a narrow opening or crack
Synonyms –   split, dispute, separate, discrepancy

 unite, unify, accord, harmony
Example –
We must not encourage any such political leader who tries to 
 create fissures in the society through hateful inflammatory speeches.

4)Disillusionment (noun)   (मोहभंग):  dis-illuzun-ment
Meaning – 
a feeling of disappointment resulting from the discovery that something is not as good as one believed it to be.
Synonyms –   disenchantment, disappointment, disaffection, dissatisfaction

  trusting, enthusiastic
Example –
There is growing public disillusionment with the present system of government.

5)Backing (noun)   (समर्थन):  bek-ing
Meaning – 
help or support.

The foreign secretary won the backing of opposition parties.

6)Unrest (noun)  (अशांति):  un-rest
Meaning –  
a state of uneasiness, restlessness, or agitation
Synonyms –
agitation, commotion, hubbub, disruption, perturbation, chaos, disorder
Antonyms –
 order, orderliness
Example – 
The political unrest will only ease when efforts are made to make sure that all people are treated equally. 

7)Disenchantment (noun) (निराशा,मोहभंग): dis-enchant-ment
Meaning –  
a feeling of disappointment about someone or something you previously respected or admired
Synonyms –  disillusionment, disappointment, dissatisfaction, discontent
Antonyms –
encouraged, enchanted
-There is growing disenchantment in the little kid due to the daily quarrels between his parents.

8)Reconciliation (noun) (सुलह):  re-conci-li-ashun
Meaning – 
 the restoration of good relations between individuals, groups, or territories who had become divided for some reason/the action of making one view or belief compatible with another.
Synonyms –  reuniting, reunion, bringing (back),conciliation,appeasement,settlement
Antonyms –
 estrangement, alienation, feud, incompatibility
Example – 
When the reconciliation brought my two brothers together again, it changed our family dynamics for the better.
